Meet Dr. Murphy

A lifelong New Englander, Dr. Murphy was born and raised in Plymouth, MA and is proud to call Maine home!

Dr. Murphy graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor’s of science in Biology from the Providence College liberal arts honors program and earned his dental degree from the University of Connecticut. He continued his specialty training in orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics at the University of Connecticut. He is a clinical faculty member & lecturer in developmental biology at the Harvard School of Dental Medicine Advanced Graduate Education Program in Orthodontics.

Dr. Murphy is a member of the American Board of Orthodontics, American Association of Orthodontics, Northeast Society of Orthodontists, American Dental Association, Omicron Kappa Upsilon Dental Honor Society, Sigma Xi Research Society, Maine Dental Association, Greater Portland Dental Society and York County Dental Society.

He was awarded the Maine Dental Association’s Presidents Award for his service on the MDA’s Covid-19 re-opening task force.

Additionally, Dr. Murphy, who is the president of the Maine Orthodontic Association, has also served as the treasurer of the Maine Dental Association and is on the council of membership ethics & judiciary concerns for the American Association of Orthodontists.

 

Board-Certified

Dr. Murphy is a Board Certified orthodontist, an honor achieved by less than half of all practicing orthodontists. His aim is to provide his patients with personalized, effective treatment options in a friendly, fun and supportive environment. He specializes in early interceptive, adolescent and adult orthodontic treatment.

He has spoken at numerous national conferences and has had several articles published related to accelerating tooth movement, decreasing orthodontic treatment times and the role of biomechanics in orthodontic therapy.

Outside the Office

When Dr. Murphy isn’t treating patients, he enjoys spending time with his family & friends. He loves to be outside regardless of the weather surfing, snowboarding and hiking and is a New England sports fan through & through!
